Auction Management Solutions (AMS)—the world leader in asset disposition technology and solutions—developed its proprietary, first-to-market OnLine Ringman technology to provide instantaneous live audio and data with real-time streaming video from the floor of ABC auction houses to remote bidders via standard Internet dial-up connections. The OnLine Ringman product enables Auction Broadcasting Company (ABC) to integrate the live auction in a lane with the extended access to bidders available via the Internet. Bidding on items can be accomplished by both sets of buyers at the same time in conjunction with an auctioneer. The application requires the assistance of a clerk at the ABC auction facility to ‘enter/accept’ the bid from the floor or the Internet (based on the auctioneer’s direction) and, consequently, reset the Internet users to be able to bid at the next incremental value. The remote bidder attends the live ABC auction from his or her office, home, or other location utilizing a Pentium class PC with the appropriate software that is capable of being connected to the Internet. The application provides the remote user with a live, real time video (3 frames every 10 seconds) plus instantaneous, better-than-FM quality audio (less than a second delay from the time the auctioneer speaks to the time the remote user receives and hears the auctioneer). The control of the auction remains with the auctioneer and ABC. The auctioneer is provided visual and audio cues that indicate Internet activity is taking place; therefore, to the auctioneer, a remote bid is handled exactly the same as a bid from the local audience.
